No Encore Design is a creative outlet rooted in the Southern California music scene. For over a decade, it’s captured the energy of live shows and independent artists through bold posters, album covers, and original artwork. Born from countless late nights and loud venues, it now creates distinctive visuals for bands, venues and the local music community.
If you’re wondering who “we” are…
It’s Dave..
Just Dave.
Here’s Dave, Answering a Few Things You Might be Wondering
How do you approach your design and illustration work? What tools do you use?
Every show brings its own vibe and character, especially when bands already have an established brand. If a whole lineup needs a poster, I’ll design something that represents everyone equally. If one specific band commissions the artwork, I focus on their identity and story, sometimes even tying in a theme from a song, an album, or something happening in the world.
I work closely with band reps, managers, and promoters to make sure the final piece connects. My main tools are Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, combined with my pen tablet. Sometimes I’ll start by sketching by hand and then digitize the artwork for that mix of organic and clean.
How did No Encore Designs come about?
For about 10 years I was simply “Dave the Designer” in the local scene, especially through my work with OCML (Orange County Music League). By 2024, I realized I wanted to build something that stood on its own, so I launched No Encore Designs.
Can I commission you to design a poster, album cover, or merch item?
Yes! I always take on commissions, but I do have requirements that help filter out casual requests. This is my passion project outside of my full-time job as a Senior Designer, so timing and planning are everything.
My standard lead time is at least three weeks. That window gives me time to research the show, learn about the bands, and explore creative directions that make the artwork feel authentic. That said, creativity doesn’t always follow the clock. Sometimes a project planned for weeks comes together over a single weekend.
If you already have your details ready, like band lineup, dates, specs, and creative direction, and enough lead time, we can absolutely make something magical happen.
How much do you charge for design work?
Pricing depends on the project. A design focused poster with layout and typography is priced differently than a fully custom illustrated poster because it takes much longer to hand draw and edits are trickier.
The best way to get an accurate quote is to fill out the request form with as much detail as possible. The more info you provide up front, the quicker I can give you a ballpark cost.
Do you sell prints or merch of your work?
Not yet, but it’s something I’d like to do down the line. If enough people ask for prints of a specific piece, I’ll definitely explore making them available.
Are you available for collaborations with venues, labels, or festivals?
Yes! I’m always interested in larger collaborations, whether that’s a one off festival poster, a label driven release, or ongoing venue branding. If you have an idea, let’s talk.
Can you create artwork outside of music related projects?
Yes. Music is where No Encore started, but I’m also a full-time Graphic Designer outside of this project. I’ve created everything from catalogs and product packaging to logos and brand campaigns.
If your project isn’t music related but you connect with my style, I’m open to it. I’ll also be linking my personal design portfolio here.
Are you available for podcasts, talks, or workshops about design and illustration?
Definitely. I’ve got a unique story about how I went from freelancing in the local music scene to landing my first full-time design job. If your podcast, panel, or workshop is looking for a perspective on illustration, design, or creative careers, I’d love to contribute.
How can I support your work besides commissioning a project?
The easiest way is to spread the word. Share my work with your friends, family, or favorite bands. I’ve been lucky to land gigs simply through word of mouth in the music scene.
I also offer a finder’s fee for anyone who connects me with a band, venue, or project that turns into paid work. And of course, even small things like liking, sharing, or commenting on my posts really help keep the momentum going.
